It appears to have one subpopulation in Suriname and another in Para, Brazil. Numbers of individuals in each subpopulation are not known.

The Guianan (NT0125) and the Uatuma-Trombetas (NT0173) moist forests where this species resides are relatively stable/intact, however, some of the general threats that occur in these habitats that may effect this species include: large-scale forestry projects, road-building, gold-mining and its resulting pollution (WWF 2001).

It is present in the following protected areas: Central Suriname Nature Reserve and Rio Trombetas Biological Reserve - Brazil. It is not listed on CITES and seeds from this species are not present in the Millennium Seed Bank, UK. It is listed in the 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants as Endangered in Brazil and Vulnerable in Suriname (Vulnerable globally; Walter and Gillett 1998). Further surveys in the known collection localities are needed to determine the status of this species at these sites.
