The population is inferred to be stable as evidenced by its occurrence in a wide number of habitats, its tolerance to disturbed and open conditions and its robust growing habit.

The only major threat to the species is the exploitation of the palm for its stems and the loss of habitat due to deforestation and agricultural expansion. However, the species persists in open, disturbed conditions and it is not completely eliminated from agricultural sites where annual gardens and pastures are prevalent.
