This species is reported to be very common throughout its range (Morales et al. 2003).

This species is very common within Costa Rica and Panama and is not at present considered to be experiencing any major threats to the overall stability of the population. Collections have been made within areas of disturbed and secondary forest, which suggests this species made be resilient to anthropogenic modification.

This species is known to occur within the protected areas network, for example specimens have been collected from Darien National Park (Category II), Panama and Braulio Carrillo National Park (category II), Costa Rica. The population should be monitored at regular intervals and field data is required to verify the presence of this taxon in Ecuador and Colombia. Seeds have yet to be collected and stored by a seed bank as a method of ex situ conservation.
