There is no known information on the number of plants in existence, however it is thought that the species is common due to its inclusion in the Global Compendium of weeds. It has also been referred to as common among cultivated fields, hill slopes, road cuttings, wastelands and along the shades of cashew plantations.

The ecoregions in which this species resides are under considerable threat from human impact such as deforestation and shifting agriculture. However studies have found this species to live on cultivated ground, in particular within rice plantations and other disturbed areas such as wastelands, suggesting this species may tolerate and even thrive in disturbed areas.
