One specimen was collected in what is now a national park in the Finisterre Range. These highlands and hills of the western Huon Peninsula are virtually unstudied, despite lying relatively close to population centres (Swartzendruber).

WWF (2006), together with the Kutubu Joint Venture Partnership, have been engaged in a conservation project in the Kikori region of PNG. The Tugiri Orchid Farm has been operating since the end of 2005/early 2006.
