Although occurring within a number of national parks in Malaysia and Indonesia, this species is likely to remain at risk from over intensive tourism and land conversion. Of particular concern are reports of continued habitat destruction in the Gunung Niut area of North West Kalimantan (Rijksen and Meijaard 1999).

Two of the collections for this species were made in the 180,000 ha Gunung Niut Wildlife Reserve in North West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and several were made in national parks in Malaysia, Sabah, namely from Taman Negara Banjaran Crocker and the World Heritage-listed Kinabalu Park, as well as from Ulu Temburong in Brunei.
