There are 17 known subpopulations of this species. The most recent collection was made in 2015 from Ambalabe, Vohibe (Toamasina Province, Atsinanana Region). (Madagascar Catalogue, 2016).

The species is threatened by habitat degradation and destruction due to an increase in fire frequency for slash and burn agriculture, soil erosion and sedimentation, logging and wood harvesting, mining and quarrying, competition with invasive non-native species, water management and pollution.
