This species is threatened by habitat loss due to wild fires and artisanal mining (Goodman et al. 2018).

This species has four subpopulations recorded from two Protected Areas, in Itremo Massif Harmonius Protected Landscape and in Maromizaha Natural Resources Reserve. In ex situ conservation, there is one site worldwide reported for living collections and seed collections (BGCI 2023, Genesys 2023). This species is included in Appendix II of CITES.
