The population of Angraecum platycornu is currently thought to be decreasing since the species habitat is threatened by forest clearing (shifting agriculture), and forest degradation (small scale logging and wood harvesting for subsistence). The number of mature individuals of A. platycornu is not known and cannot be estimated as the species is an epiphyte on lower branches on trees in humid forests.

Four occurrences have been recorded in three protected areas, namely the Ankeniheny-Zahamena Corridor at Ankerana forest (two occurrences), the Makira National Park (one occurrence), and the Masoala National Park (one occurrence). Angraecum platycornu is also included in CITES Appendix II. Ex situ conservation is recommended (micro-propagation, seed banking, and living collections). The species should be included in the list of the Malagasy protected species. Further awareness building is recommended for local communities and national authorities.
