État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
There is no detailed population information available for this species. A herbarium specimen collected in 2016 from Anjzorobe in Antananarivo province recorded only one plant seen. There is an inferred decline in the number of mature individuals due to loss of habitat from mining activities at Ambatovy.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
This species habitat of humid forest has decreased in area since the 1970's by 33% (Moat and Smith 2007). The main threat to humid forests is slash and burn agriculture (Moat and Smith 2007), but logging and mining are also threats (Desbureaux et al. 2016). Deforestation has continued in recent years with 318,000 hectares of forest lost across Madagascar in 2014 (Global Forest Watch 2016). From satellite imagery some of the localities for this species, for example, forest near Anjozorobe have areas of agriculture within the forest, close to where this species was collected. This species is also found at the Ambatovy mine site, a large scale open cast mine for nickel and cobalt. Ex situ collections of this species at the mine sites shade houses were collected from areas of the forest that now appear on satellite imagery to be part of the open cast mine site. Mining exploration was cited as the main threat to this species in the Madagascar Red List (GSPM 2011).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
The species is found in Analamazoatra special reserve, Ankeniheny-Zahamena corridor and Anjozorobe protected area. There are two ex situ collections of this species held at botanic gardens (BGCI 2016), but further ex situ conservation, particularly seed conservation is recommended. This species is found at the Ambatovy mine site, which has a conservation offset programme. There is an active ex situ conservation programme at the mine site (Berner et al. 2009) including an orchid shade house which contains several ex situ collections of this species (Ambatovy 2016, GBIF 2016). This species is listed on Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES 2016). This species was rated as Critically Endangered B1+B2 in the Madagascar Red List (GSPM 2011).
