The population of Angraecum melanostictum is currently thought to be decreasing since the species habitat is threatened. The number of mature individuals of A. melanostictum is not known and cannot be estimated since the species is epiphyte.

This species experiences continuing decline in EOO, AOO, habitat extent & quality, number of subpopulations and number of mature individuals because of habitat destruction due to Mining activities, selective logging, timber harvesting for small-scale subsistence and tavy (slash-and-burn farming).

Angraecum melanostictum has been collected in four protected areas, the Marojejy National Park (one occurrence), the Mantadia National Park (two occurrences), the Torotorofotsy Protected Area (two occurrences), and the Analamazaotra National Park (five occurrences). It is included in Appendix II of CITES. Individuals of this species have been brought to cultivation in the Ambatovy and the Antananarivo shade houses.
