The species experiences a continuing decline in EOO, AOO, habitat quality, number of subpopulations and number of mature individuals due to mining activities, selective logging, charcoal production, timber harvesting for small-scale subsistence and tavy (slash-and-burn farming).

Six collections have been made in five protected areas: Betampona Natural Reserve (one occurrence), Mantadia National Park (one occurrence), Masoala National Park (one occurrence), Nosy Mangabe National Park (one occurrence), and Natural Reserve of the Tsitongambarika Natural forest (one occurrence). One collection has been made in the conservation zone surrounding the Ambatovy mining site footprint. This species is included in Appendix II of CITES.
