There are no known threats for the species. It is found in cultivation in Europe but it is not known if plants are still being taken from the wild for cultivation. As the species is listed in CITES, Appendix II, it is under international trade regulations (CITES 2016). This species habitat of dry deciduous forests has decreased in area since the 1970's by 39% (Moat and Smith 2007). The main threats to dry forests are charcoal production, firewood collection, agricultural clearing and encroachment (Moat and Smith 2007).

There are no known conservation measures specifically for this species but it is found in the Amber Mountain National Park. There is one ex situ collection held at a botanic garden (BGCI 2016). Surveys for this species are recommended to establish the species distribution, population size and trends. Ex situ seed conservation is also recommended. This species is listed on Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES 2016).
