No numerical population data are available and the current population trend is unknown. The species is known from the type specimen collected in 1944. It is not known whether the species has been specifically searched for since then.

Acacia-Commiphora bushland is threatened throughout the Harerghe floristic region, particularly those areas falling within the Somali Regional State, by overgrazing, fuel wood harvesting and charcoal production (Worku et al. 2018, Meshesha et al. 2019). Through reviewing historic and current satellite imagery, several individual dwellings and grazing pens can be identified within a 1 km radius of the type locality. However, the habitat within the wider area appears generally unaltered and there is no discernible spread of areas undergoing degradation. As such, it is unclear whether these activities constitute a plausible threat to the species. Drought is also cited as a cause of degradation of Acacia-Commiphora shrub land (Worku et al. 2018, Meshesha et al. 2019), however, this is often in combination with the aforementioned threats. As such, it is unclear as to whether drought is currently impacting this species directly.

No species-specific conservation or management plans are in place for this species and the type locality does not lie within a protected area. It is not known to be present in any ex situ plant collections (BGCI 2022, UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2022). Investigation into population numbers and trends is desirable, as well as the potential impact of drought on the species.
