État de la populationExpert

This species is known from 11 subpopulations representing five locations. The current population trend is decreasing since the habitat of one subpopulation is threatened by the construction of the dam of Kinguélé II. Its number of individuals is not known and cannot be estimated since the species is epiphyte.

Description complète des menacesExpert

The fifth location of Ancistrorhynchus crystalensis is situated within sites in unprotected areas, that are fairly accessible to people living in the vicinity. Human pressure to meet domestic needs (in particular from shifting agriculture and firewood) is possible but should be quite limited. However, the future construction of the dam of Kinguélé II will lead to the loss of this fifth subpopulation.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

Of the five known locations of Ancistrorhynchus crystalensis, four occurred within protected areas in Cameroon (Campo Ma’an National Park), Rio Muni (Monte Alén National Park), Príncipe Island (Pico Mesa and Pico Papagaio) and Gabon (Crystal Mountains). Ancistrorhynchus crystalensis is easily being grown in shade houses in Central Africa (Bom Successo in São Tomé, Yaoundé in Cameroon, Libreville, Tchimbélé and the Sibang Arboretum in Gabon). Seed banking is underway for this species in Yaoundé.
