There are no known major threats for the species. Most of the Alpinia species are economically important as they are used in flavouring various food and as ornamental plants, but it is not clear whether this taxon is used and whether it has any economic value. At the only known locality for this species the forest is reported to be intact, however, the Freeport mining concession is just to the west. Other potential threats include landslides that could impact this locality in a single event (T. Utteridge pers. comm.).
