The main threat in the area where this species is found is the increment of induced fires in grasslands linked to cattle ranching and agricultural activities. Fires are also link to political reasons, is a way people manifest discontent with the political situation. Fire kills mature plants and seeds, and affects seedling establishment. The species has been collected for horticultural purposes and this has likely caused a decline in the number of mature individuals.

The species is present in five botanic gardens outside Madagascar (BGCI 2108); its range is inside a protected area – Ibity Mountain, some uncontrolled activities occur there though, due to the large extension of the area in proportion with the surveillance patrols.
