Aloe divaricata is widely distributed. It is abundant in the Androy and Mahafaly plateaus, and also in the sandy coastal forests north of Toliara.

This species is threatened by illicit harvesting and grazing, and its habitat loss destruction due to annual fires and granite quarrying.

Aloe divaricata is recorded within nine protected areas: Andohahela, Ankarafantsika, Ankodida, Bongolava, Ifotaka, Kirindy Mitea, Menabe, Onilahy and Tsimananmpetsotse. Seeds are accessioned in the Millennium Seed Bank, UK and duplicated in country at the Silo National des Graines Forestières (SNGF). It is conserve ex-situ in more than 40 botanic gardens around the world (BGCI 2018), and Aloe divaricata is listed in Appendix II of CITES (2019).
