This species has not been found again since its discovery in 1911. It is thought that it does still exist in the Andringitra range, which is now a natural nature reserve.

Even though the area where the species was collected is now a protected area, before 1999 it was subject to human pressures such as zebu grazing and induced fires which might have driven this species to extinction.

The Andringitra Natural Reserve was established in 1999, which is the area the species was collected in 1911. This plant is not found in ex situ collections (BGCI PlantSearch 2018) and is listed in CITES Appendix II (CITES 2019).
