In Malawi, the species was assessed as Vulnerable, on account of the small population size in the country (Klopper et al. 2012); in spite of this, no widespread global threats have been identified to affect this species.

This aloe is included in Appendix II of CITES (2019). The species is grown in at least one ex situ collection (BGCI 2019). In Malawi, Aloe bulbicaulis has been assessed as Vulnerable under criteria D2 (Southern African Plant Red Data Lists 2002).
