Aloe brunneostriata is known from only one area the size of a football pitch (S. Carter pers. comm.). Plants sucker to form small clumps and densely cover the entire area. No decline in the population was observed between visits in 1970s and 1980s.

The plain where Aloe brunneostriata grows is used by local people to graze their animals. According to a note on one herbarium specmens (Fison 113), the species is used for medicinal purposes.
