This species is abundant close to the Manambolo river, and scarcer inside the Tsingys towards Antsalova.

Although this species is reported from a protected area, logging activities and fires take place in parts of this site, however, these are unlikely to affect the species habitat.

All of the collections of this species are from the Ankarana National Park. The species is grown ex-situ in three botanic gardens (BGCI 2018). This species is listed in CITES Appendix II (CITES 2019).
