The Beanka Forest population of Aloe beankaensis consists of about 15 mature individuals spread over an area of 10x2 m (Letsara et al. 2012). During a week of fieldwork in the area in February 2017 another population with three individuals was found 5 km south-east of the type locality. As the habitat of the species is very similar in Bemaraha we suspect the existence of a subpopulation in the northern limit of the park. It is estimated that the total population size for this species is no more than 50 individuals, but further field work is needed to confirm this estimate. The population of the species is located within Beanka protected area where all human activities are strictly regulated and access is difficult due to the morphology of the geology. Therefore the population is estimated to be stable.

The population of the species is located within Beanka protected area where all human activities are strictly regulated and due to the morphology of the geology, the habitat is very difficult to access. Data from Global Forest Watch (http://www.globalforestwatch.org) suggests slow, but continuous habitat loss across the range of this species due to small-scale wood harvesting and fires at the forest margins, mainly at the eastern edge of Beanka Protected Area, and this has been confirmed by personal observations from field trips in 2013 and 2017 by the Kew Madagascar Conservation Centre (KMCC) team.

Despite the small size of known populations Beanka is a remote protected area with limited visitation by humans. The 14,000 ha Beanka Forest is essentially a northern extension of Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park that has been managed since late 2007 by Biodiversity Conservation Madagascar (BCM) and funded by Bioculture (Mauritius) Ltd. BCM is a Malagasy Association that focuses on forest conservation and restoration and the initiation of programs for socio-economic development of surrounding communities. The species is not yet banked at any genebank but several living collections have been planted at botanic gardens in Antananarivo e.g. Parc Botanique et Zoologique de Tsimbazaza.

As we do not have any information concerning the entire population range, size and trends, we recommend further study on the population. To ensure the survival of the species ex situ conservation works such seed banking and propagation of living collection within Botanic Gardens should be prioritised.
