This species is made up of scattered solitary or sparingly suckering individuals. The subpopulation visited in 2000 is made up of solitary individuals and individuals in small clumps.

Threats to this species are little documented. The human population density in this part of Somalia is very low. However, there are nomadic herders in the region. Their animals can have degrading effects on the vegetation from overgrazing and trampling which contribute to soil erosion, but it is not known for certain that this species is being impacted, especially as it is so scattered. It is also not know how well this species will cope should the climate become even more arid.
