The main threat in the area where this species is found is the increment of induced fires in grasslands linked to cattle ranching and agricultural activities. Fire kills matures plants and seeds, and affects seedling establishment because the microhabitat (crevasses in rocks)  of the species is altered by the fire. Fires are also link to political reasons, is a way people manifest discontent with the political situation. The species has been collected for horticultural purposes and this is likely causing a decline in the number of mature individuals.
