The species is classed as globally 'Apparently Secure' by NatureServe (2014), however some populations in some states in the USA and Provinces in Canada are classed as 'Critically Imperiled' or 'Vulnerable'. The Canadian Endangered Species Conservation Council (CESCC) classed the species as 'Secure' (2011) (for Canada only).
