État de la populationExpert

The species is very localized but abundant. Populations of this species are considered fragile, but only in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur it is present in more than ten sites (Roux and Nicolas 2001). The species has been described as a dynamic species whose presence seems not to be compromised in a mid-term perspective (Roux 2015), being rare but not threatened (Roux and Nicolas 2001), and relatively common in the department of Var (Cruon 2008).

Description complète des menacesExpert
There are no major widespread threats for this species. Potential threats to this species include habitat fragmentation and degradation mainly due to anthropization patterns (Roux 2015). However, it is hard to discern the extent at which these threats affect current populations.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The species is under protection in the regions of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Corsica, having being included in the lists of protected plant species of both regions (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle 2015). It is listed Least Concern in the Red List of Threatened Flora of France (Roux 2015).

In France, the species frequently occurs in sites owned by governmental entities (Conservatoire de l'espace littoral, river sides, communal forests, communal reserves), and within Natura 2000 sites. The species also occurs in at least two Natura 2000 sites in Italy (Monte Nero-Monte Bignone (IT1315806) and Monte Ciazze Secche (IT1324007)). Proposed measures for conservation would include the development of projects to raise awareness about the conservation status of particularly sensitive populations and the implementation of management plans and monitoring schemes to ensure populations trends are followed (Roux 2015). Moreover, because the species is frequently misidentified with other species of the genus Aira sp., potential suitable areas as well as sites where the species is currently present, should be better explored to clarify actual population sizes.
