There is may be some local loss due to deforestation or agriculture expansion into premontane or montane forest habitat. Also, considering that this species mostly occurs at middle elevations habitats, where some important extensive agricultural practices such as coffee plantations occur, some deforestation in this habitat may affect the species.

This species is known from some protected areas, in Panama: Reserva Forestal Fortuna, Parque Nacional Chagres, Parque Nacional Darien; in Colombia: Parque Nacional Paramillo, Parque Nacional Natural Las Orquídeas, Parque Nacional Natural Farallones de Cali and Ecuador in Reserva Bioantropológica Awá. This species was assessed as Near Threatened in Colombia, a national assessment made by Galeano and Bernal (2005).
