État de la populationExpert
This species is known from ca 15 localities and this grass has a naturally restricted geographic range. However, A. petriei is locally abundant grass species of montane and alpine grasslands of the region. In 2009 it was rated as Naturally Uncommon, which are taxa with more than 250 mature individuals but less than 20,000 (de Lange et al. 2009; New Zealand Plant Conservation Network online, accessed on the 19th of October 2009). The size and dynamics of the population are unknown.
Description complète des menacesExpert
In the montane zone, tussocks grasslands are threatened by the invasion of weed species, exotic conifers and browsing. Large areas are protected in a network of national parks and conservation areas. In 2009 this species was considered to be at risk as Naturally Uncommon, a species whose distribution is naturally small and populations may be stable or increasing and its distribution is not the result of past or recent human disturbance (de Lange et al. 2009).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species has been collected within several conservation units on the South Island. Despite being rated as Naturally Uncommon in 2009 qualifying the species as Data Poor and Sparse (de Lange et al. 2009), a draft report where the species has been reassess currently qualifies it as Not Threatened (de Lange and Rolfe 2010).
