The habitat of A. pungens is undergoing continuous loss, and is currently experiencing significant threats from shifting agriculture, selective logging and wood cutting for small-scale subsistence. Most of the sites where the species occurs are in unprotected areas that are easily accessible. Our observations suggest a continuing decline in the number of subpopulations and mature individuals, and therefore in AOO and EOO. We expect that this human pressure will continue and intensify in the foreseeable future.

Despite the fact that Angraecum pungens is currently threatened, the species is easily being grown in botanical gardens (BR at Meise in Belgium) and in shadehouses in Central Africa (Yaoundé in Cameroon, Libreville, Tchimbélé and the Sibang Arboretum in Gabon), and by some hobbyists.
