This species is known from three subpopulations in Monte Alén National Park in Equatorial Guinea, Monts Doudou National Park in Gabon and Ivindo National Park in Gabon. Additionally, the species is almost certainly present in patches of submontane forests that occur outside protected areas. The population is currently thought to be stable.

All three known subpopulations of A. atlanticum occur in protected areas that are difficult to access and do not appear to be under human pressure. However, the species is almost certainly present in patches of submontane forest that occur outside protected areas, and could become threatened in the future by shifting agriculture, selective logging and/or small-scale subsistence forest exploitation.
