This species has not been collected often and where it occurs it is never abundant. It is assumed to be declining because of forest loss in parts of its range.

Forest loss due to agricultural expansion and logging is a threat to the species in parts of its range. One of the localities in Gabon was within a logging concession area.

Has been recorded from the Takamanda Forest Reserve and from Ebo National Park, both in Cameroon. Expansion of the protected area network for forests in this part of Africa is required. No plants are reported to be grown ex situ (BGCI 2018). Monitoring of the population trends of this species and its habitat is required.
