Description complète des menacesExpert

The habitat of this species is being severely impacted across much of its range. The Budongo Forest Reserve is not safe due to illegal tree-felling, the forest at Minziro is mostly gone and Malabigambo which is contiguous with Minziro is also, subject to tree felling, Irangi near Kahuzi Biega is under pressure through logging, Siba near Budongo has the same problems, Maramagambo which is close to Queen Elizabeth National Park is undergoing illegal felling and at Muera where the species was collected in 1907, it is outside of the protected area and there is considerable logging. Even in Virunga National Park there is illegal logging for charcoal production, and refugees from the civil conflict pose a constant pressure on the habitat. The area where this species occurred near Entebbe and Kampala is probably now under urbanization or agricultural crops.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

The species is recorded from a number of protected areas including Virunga National Park (the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Queen Elizabeth National Park, Budongo Forest Reserve, and Minziro Forest Reserve. No plants are reported to be in ex situ cultivation (BGCI 2018).

Further research is required to confirm if this species has a wider range in the Democratic Republic of the Congo than is currently thought, and whether or not it occurs in Burundi and Rwanda.
