État de la populationExpert
This is a widespread and abundant species, however, because it has been widely cultivated and then become naturalized, it is not clear which plants are part of the wild native population, hence it is not possible to say anything about population size or trends.
Description complète des menacesExpert
As it is not clear which part of the extensive range of this species is its true native range and which plants are the true wild population, the identification of any threats and their impact is impossible. The wide cultivation of this species and many years of selective breeding may have impacted the wild population.

Habitats préférentiels (classification IUCN)

  • 1_6Forest - Subtropical/Tropical Moist Lowland
Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The plant is recorded from many protected areas across its "range" but it is not known which are within the wild native part of its range. The species is widely grown in ex situ cultivation (BGCI 2018) but it is not known how many of these are from wild plants versus cultivated/naturalized plants.

Genetic research is required to determine which parts of the "range" and which plants might be treated as being truly wild.
