There is no information available on population size or trend and appears rather rare from herbarium records, but most of the collectors of this species (Dhetchuvi, Harris, and Poulsen) have worked on Aframomum, and it is probable that it is under-collected by more general collectors (Harris and Wortley 2018).

No threats are known for this species and it appears to occur in areas which are not that impacted by habitat loss and it probably occurs elsewhere in this area.

The species has been collected in Parc National de Lobéké (Cameroon), Ndoki and Dzanga-Sangha National Parks (Central African Republic) and Noubalé-Ndoki National Park (Congo). It is also possibly in Ivindo National Park in Gabon. The species is not known to be in ex situ cultivation in any botanic gardens (BGCI 2018).
Plants and seed should be collected for ex situ conservation. Further surveys are required to determine the full range of this species and to gather further information on population size and trends.
