The population of Aeranthes filipes is currently thought to be decreasing since the species habitat is threatened. The number of mature individuals of A. filipes is not known and cannot be estimated since the species is an epiphyte on the trunk or branches of trees covered by mosses and lichen.

The species is threatened by shifting agriculture (Vanilla plantation), slash-and-burn practices (tavy), selective logging, wood harvesting, timber harvesting for small-scale subsistence and mining activities.

Aeranthes filipes is recorded in two protected areas, the Manongarivo Special Reserve (two occurrences) and Vohibe forest (CAZ) Ankeniheny-Zahamena Corridor (one occurrence). The species is included in Appendix II of CITES. Individuals from this species have been brought to cultivation in the Ambatovy and Antananarivo shade houses. It is recorded in one ex situ site worldwide (BGCI, 2021). Ex situ conservation is recommended (micro-propagation, seed banking). The species should be included in the Malagasy protected species list. Further awareness building is recommended for local communities and national authorities.
