Description complète des menacesExpert
As the distribution of this species is uncertain there are no specific threats identified for this species. However its habitat of humid forest has decreased in area since the 1970's by 33% (Moat and Smith 2007). The main threat to humid forests is slash and burn agriculture (Moat and Smith 2007), but logging and mining are also threats (Desbureaux et al. 2016). Deforestation has continued in recent years with 318,000 hectares of forest lost across Madagascar in 2014 (Global Forest Watch 2016). Maroantsetra is an urban area surrounding by agricultural fields with no humid forest present. Commercial collecting of Madagascar's orchids for the horticulture trade poses a substantial threat, with Aeranthes species being of particular interest to the trade (D. Roberts pers. comm. 2008). Illegal collection of this species is cited as a threat in the Madagascar Red List (GSPM 2011).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
There are no known conservation measures for this species. Maroantsetra is unprotected, the nearest protected area is Masoala National Park, 20 km to the west. Surveys in humid forest near to Maroantsetra are recommended to find out more information on this species distribution, population size and trends. This species is listed on Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES 2016). This species was rated as Endangered B2 in the Madagascar Red List (GSPM 2011).
