No population data are available. It has been reported that the few individuals first noted had disappeared from those trees, but it has since been found nearby at an unrecorded site nearby (B. Wursten pers.comm. 2018). It is assumed that population size is no more than 50 individuals, although with further survey this may prove to be an underestimate.

The species is not known to be threatened with collection for its horticultural rarity, but this is a potential threat; other orchids growing nearby have been targeted by collectors (S. Childes pers. comm.). The montane Podocarpus forest in this part of the Vumba mountains is still intact and not under any imminent threat (B. Wursten and S. Childes pers. comm. 2019).

The small patch of forest where this species occurs does not lie in a formally protected area but on private land. However, this is managed as a private nature reserve (Cloudlands Private Game Reserve) and much of the surrounding moist forest is conserved by landowners.
Assessed as Endangered B1B2cd on the national Zimbabwe Red Data List (Mapaura and Timberlake 2002) on the basis of being only known from one site and with a small, possibly fluctuating, population. However, the number of known individuals is less than 50.
