Aerangis gracillima is known from 27 collections that represent 17 subpopulations and 13 locations. Its current population trend is decreasing since the species habitat is currently facing threats. Its number of individuals is not known and cannot be estimated since the species is epiphyte.

The habitat of Aerangis gracillima is currently facing threats in some sites. The latter are subjected to a great deal of human pressure, especially from shifting agriculture, selective logging, and timber harvesting for small-scale subsistence.

Aerangis gracillima occurs within protected areas in Cameroon (The Banyang Mbo Wildlife Sanctuary) and in Rio Muni (Natural Monument of Piedra Bere). The species is easily being grown in shadehouses in Central Africa (Yaoundé in Cameroon, Libreville in Gabon), and by some hobbyists. Seed bank is underway for this species in Yaoundé.
