Aerangis bovicornu is only known from one occurrence that represents a single subpopulation. It was reported to have an estimated number of mature individuals of fewer than 50 (Hermans et al. 2021).

This species is threatened by habitat loss due to the expansion of a Pelargonium spp. plantations, grown for essential oils (Hermans et al. 2021).
