Description complète des menacesExpert
Kyratzis et al. (2013) reported that the main threats to this species in Europe are coastal development and the use of herbicides. Threats across the rest of the species' range remain unknown.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The genus Aegilops is listed in Annex I of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) as part of the wheat gene pool.

Aegilops peregrina has been accessed as Least Concern (LC) in Jordan (Taifour and El-Oqlah 2014) and in Europe and EU 27 (Kyratzis et al. 2011).

There are 340 germplasm accessions of wild origin reported by Genesys of which 269 are backed up at a second genebank. Furthermore, 151 accessions are duplicated and conserved ex situ in the Svalbard Seed Vault. Out of the 340 accessions, 319 were collected within the species' native range (95 from Jordan, 81 from Syria, 61 from Israel, 31 from Cyprus, 23 from Lebanon, 12 from Azerbaijan, eight from Turkey, four from Palestine, two from Egypt, one from Greece and one from Iraq). A further three were collected outside the species' native range (two from Lybia, one from Algeria, one from Kazakhstan and one from Japan) and 16 are from undisclosed country of origin (Genesys Global Portal on Plant Genetic Resources 2017). BGCI (2013) reports living collections in two botanical gardens worldwide.

Kyratzis et al. (2011) note that this species is known to occur within protected areas in Europe and recommend that these subpopulations are included in the management plans of these sites to initiate active conservation interventions, including monitoring.

In Italy, it is documented to occur in several protected areas: Area delle Gravine Hydrogeological Obbligation Area and Fauna Protection Area, Rauccio Hydrogeological Obbligation Area, Costa Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca Fauna Protection Area, Murgia di Sud-Est, State Nature Reserve and Bosco Difesa Grande (although the latter reserve has no protection status) (EEA 2013). According to USDA, ARS, GRIN (2017), this species is naturalized in Algeria, Cyprus, Italy and Morocco. However, these naturalized subpopulations may contain genetic diversity of importance for crop improvement and therefore, warrant active conservation interventions.
