The populations observed at Mount Isarog and Mount Malinao are quite abundant but restricted only between 1,000 to 1,800 m asl. The populations in Mayon Volcano may have declined significantly, or worst, already wiped out because of recent volcanic activity (last collection was done on 1953).

The threats for this species at Mount Malinao would be the penetration of invasive plant species (e.g. Hedychium coronarium) and continuous conversion of forest into agricultural lands. Furthermore, the populations distributed at Mayon Volcano may have declined significantly, or worst, already wiped out because of recent volcanic activity.

Two of the localities where the species is distributed are protected area in the Philippines namely Mount Isarog Natural Park (type locality) in the province of Camarines Sur and Mayon Volcano Natural Park in Albay. Furthermore, the species is currently cultivated at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE).
