État de la populationExpert
The Cuban population is considered to be less than 10,000 mature individuals (Bissea 2008) and occurs entirely within a protected area the "Parque Nacional Peninsula de Guanahacabibes". In Grand Cayman, the specific habitat required by this species limits its area of occupancy and number of localities, however where it does occur, it can be very abundant. In Grand Cayman the area, extent and quality of habitat has been observed to be declining (Burton 2008). Although the Cuban population occurs in a protected area, satellite imagery shows human encroachment into the habitat.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The main threat to this species is loss of habitat mainly due to the building of housing, tourist facilities and roads, which is ongoing. This species has specific habitat requirements one of which is stable humid air. Any future droughts associated with climate change could alter the ecosystem and result in additional stress.
