The type was collected in 1866 and the second collection in 1975. The population is likely to be small but at the moment stable. Only one of the two known locations are however protected and the population may be at risk in the future.

The habitat in the national park should stay intact. Although the quality of habitat at Gunung Wah is relatively intact (apart from a golf resort), the long term conservation is less secured. The golf resort, or other types of encroachment, could expand to other parts of the mountain.

Some individuals of this species has been found in Gunung Mulu National Park (ZRC 2019, Protected Planet 2019). The species has not been recorded by BGCI (2019) to be grown ex situ.
