Indonesia and Malaysia are the largest producers of palm oil, and forests are continuously logged and the land converted for this purpose (Theo 2002). By 2017, over 15% of the tree cover within the extent of occurrence (EOO) had been lost in comparison to 2000 (GFW 2018).
