It is described as widespread and in places common (Watling 2005). Population size is more than 10 in areas where it is found, its distribution and population status within range on two islands remains very poorly known.

Some areas are affected by logging, deforestation and farming encroachment, however, due to its preference to grow at higher elevations, it may be less at risk. More information is needed to establish the main threats for this species.

This species is recorded in one ex situ collection in botanic gardens worldwide (BGCI 2017). Conservation recommendations include: i) Seed collection, ii) establish ex situ collection in Fiji, iii) documenting seed propagation and cultivation methods, iv) species recovery and management plan (possibly including enhancement planting), and v) awareness and engagement of land owners and regulatory authorities. Research is also needed into ecology and ecosystem service.
