État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
The population size was reported as 17 mature individuals at the time of the assessment in 2003, and later reported to be possibly extinct in the wild by Goode (pers. comm.). However, Capela (2006) reported that there were 296 adult or near-adult plants on the south-eastern aspect of the mountain. This estimate has been reconfirmed by others (Baptista pers. comm.).

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
This species has been affected by over-collecting for ornamental purposes. Reproductive failure may also be a problem as there are not many plants left in the wild. There is a possibility of hybridisation due to the inadvertent introduction of other species in the Encephalartos manikensis complex as part of population recovery efforts.
