État de la populationExpert
The population is poorly known. Reports are that the population in the Didinga hills is quite large. It is reported that E. mackenziei is distributed over a wide area around the type locality and the colony is large (Newton 2002). A CEPF funded project in South Sudan did not manage to reach E. mackenziei and has since been abandoned due to the security situation there (Q. Luke pers. comm. 2016).

Description complète des menacesExpert
There are unconfirmed reports of large numbers of plants being removed from the wild by collectors (allegedly "truck-loads"). In fact, the difficult security situation in this area has probably prevented any poaching of plants by collectors (Q. Luke pers. comm.)  Habitat destruction due to agricultural practices may also have an effect on the population and this is evident from aerial photographs of the habitat surrounding the type locality and from the rest of the distribution area.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
