État de la populationExpert
Although actual population estimates are not available, Encephalartos delucanus seems to be an extremely rare species. Heenan (1977) reported spending five weeks exploring the region west of Mpanda but only located a single plant. Heibloem (1999) spent nine days in the area and reported finding two plants. Another small cluster of plants was located during surveys of chimpanzee habitat (D. Moyer pers. comm). Earlier estimates were that the population on Mount Sitebi consisted of two groups of about 20 individuals in each cluster.

Description complète des menacesExpert
This species is affected by too frequent fires, which may affect regeneration and by changes in habitat management, that may also threaten the security of this species. Removal by collectors is also an issue. Reports also indicate that plants are often too far apart for effective reproduction.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species is listed in Appendix I of the CITES Appendices. This species possibly occurs in the Ugalla River Game Reserve, however this reserve does not extend any protection to plants. Identification of suitable sites for the formal protection of this species is needed.
