État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
It was thought that it could be possibly be extinct in the wild due to the disappearance of the type population in Zimbabwe, but additional subpopulations were found along the Zimbabwe - Mozambique border. At the time of the 2003 assessment, these were estimated as between 500 and 1,000 plants. Capela (2006) estimated that there were 1,200 mature plants in a subpopulation at Makurupini and a further 300 at Morambo, as well as several other small subpopulations. There have been no recent accounts that provide any additional insights.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
This species is threatened due to over-collecting for ornamental purposes. Habitat destruction is also occurring due to the expansion of farming activities, as a result of the human population increase, and illegal settlements. Illegal mining activities are also rampant in the Chimanimani mountains (T. Nyamucherera pers. comm.).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
This species is listed in Appendix I of the CITES Appendices. Subpopulations are possibly in the Chimanimani National Reserve, Mozambique. Identification of suitable sites for the formal protection of this species is needed. An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
